Univsersum History – Wo die Sonne niemals unterging
An empire in which the sun never sets – in the 16th century, the Habsburg Emperor Charles V (1500–1558) dreamed of the greatest empire of all time. The ambitious ruler does not shy away from war in order to enforce his humanistic ideals and religious convictions – financed with stolen gold from the colonies. But the church in Europe is splitting. The empire disintegrates, because Charles V throws away his crown and sceptre in resignation and withdraws. A shock for the people, many even see the approaching end of the world. With Wilfried Hauke’s documentary „Where the Sun Never Went Down – The Empire of Charles V.“, „Universum History“ shows a film about the first „world ruler“ of modern times 500 years ago, his visionary arrogance and his fiasco – both political and human – which could also be a reflection of the global world and the „powerful“ of our days.
